CABUK PLAYING WITH HER GRANDMOTHER, LUCKY HIT LEYDI BEHIYE (BEHIYE)
Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on October 3, 2022, playing with her grandmother, LUCKY HIT LEYDI BEHIYE (BEHIYE), owned by Shawna Koval. The other Anatolian is also owned by Shawna Koval. She is CHAMPION LUCKY HIT DIVAKIZ ASHURE (ASH). As a part of every puppy's training, I try to expose each puppy to as many different experiences as possible. This exposure includes meeting as many adult Anatolians as I have available and I supervise these meeting to guide both the puppy and the adults. By meeting and learning how to deal with all the variable Anatolian personalities, I believe my puppies will develop into more stable and flexible adults. CABUK has learned a variety of techniques to get along with different adult Anatolian behaviors with the least amount of friction. Based on her excited play, her favorite adult Anatolian is her grandmother, BEHIYE, and the play lasts only a few minutes. I have never seen CABUK play like this with her goats, geese, indian runners, or llamas. WARNING!!! If you have an untrustworthy adult, NEVER place that untrustworthy dog with a puppy!!!
CABUK DEMONSTRATING AN EXCELLENT PUPPY RESPONSE TO AN AGGRESSIVE NEW GOAT
-1- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 CABUK is meeting my new male Nubian, CreamMaker, for the first time. Notice that CABUK moves confidently around CreamMaker but not directly toward him. CreamMaker's posture is telling her that he thinks she is moving too fast and might be a threat! |
-2- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 Seeing that CreamMaker is apprehensive, CABUK slows down. CABUK doesn't want him to see her as a threat! He becomes a bit more relaxed. |
-3- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 As CABUK moves closer, CreamMaker become agitated and tilts his head aggressively (not pictured!). CABUK immediately responds by dropping to the ground to further reassure CreamMaker all is OK. CABUK, on the ground, remains motionless until CreamMaker shows he's comfortable. As usual, CABUK has demonstrated a superior working response at a young age! |
-4- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 Once CreamMaker seems calm, CABUK moves further away to keep him calm. CABUK's calm, observant, and tolerant behaviors are only seen in working Anatolian's with excellent genetics! CABUK picks a spot where she can watch CreamMaker and where her back is protected. CABUK wisely chose a location where she can focus on CreamMaker, who she has identified as a bit unstable, and not have to worry about trouble that might "pop-up" from behind. Notice CABUK lying quietly, flat on the ground, by the round bale. |
-5- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 Now CreamMaker feels more secure and decides to cautiously but aggressively move toward CABUK CABUK feels he might become physical and butt her. CABUK wants him to accept her, so smoothly moves further away. |
-6- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 CABUK turns around to face him. CABUK stands calmly with level head hoping that might stop his aggression. CABUK hopes this position makes him becomes calmer. She wants him to realize she isn't a threat to him! CABUK is walking a tightrope of behavior with this goat! CABUK's ultimate goal is to teach CreamMaker that she isn't the threat he imagines her to be! |
-7- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 So far, nothing CABUK has done has worked for long. When CreamMaker becomes more aggressive again, CABUK decides to use the wisdom and experience of her friend, LUCKY HIT Leydi CASE (CASE JR) CABUK moves to CASE JR and then turns to calmly watch CreamMaker. CABUK chose wisely! This way she can avoid aggression to protect herself! |
-8- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 CASE JR turns around and CreamMaker moves away a bit. CASE JR stands calmly watching CreamMaker, who respects CASE JR'S size and calmness! This series of interactions demonstrates why all responsible breeders select superior working ability. Superior working ability can ONLY be discovered by maintaining Anatolians with livestock 24/7. TO MAINTAIN THE ESSENCE OF THE BREED, ALL RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS TEST FOR AND SELECT SUPERIOR WORKING ABILITY IN THEIR ANATOLIAN BREEDING SELECTIONS! |
-9- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 29, 2022 With CABUK aligned with CASE JR, CreamMaker decides to move on. Throughout this entire "ordeal," CABUK correctly maintained calm behavior and never stopped trying to get CreamMaker to accept her without becoming aggressive. Notice CABUK has positioned her head directly beneath CASE JR's head! |
CABUK CORRECTLY RESPONDING TO AGGRESSIVE GEESE
-1- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 24, 2022 CABUK is helping me do the chores and stops to let the geese walk by. CABUK politely waits as they pass. Suddenly a goose moves toward CABUK. The goose stretches her neck toward CABUK aggressively. To calm the goose, CABUK says very still. |
-2- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 24, 2022 As the goose tries to grab CABUK's ear, CABUK moves back just a little. CABUK hopes the goose realizes that CABUK isn't a threat! This behavior is perfect and not seen in many young Anatolians! Another excellent stragegy is for the pup to jump away. Of course, CABUK was in a position where that isn't possible. Anatolians worth breeding should exhibit this type behavior. For that to happen, the breeder must be responsible enough to raise their potential breeding Anatolians 24/7 with livestock! |
-3- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 24, 2022 Reassured that CABUK isn't a threat, the bossy goose moves on with the flock. CABUK correctly decides to lower her head further to keep the other geese calm. CABUK, with lowered head, remains motionless until all the geese have passed. Once again, CABUK has demonstrated a superior working response at a young age! |
-4- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 24, 2022 CABUK lets all the geese pass and then calmly moves to a higher position to watch them. CABUK's calm, observant, and tolerant behaviors are only seen in the very best working Anatolian genetics! All responsible breeders look for superior working ability. Superior working ability can ONLY be discovered by maintaining Anatolians with livestock 24/7. SUPERIOR WORKING ABILITY IS THE ESSENCE OF THE BREED AND MUST BE TESTED FOR ABOVE ALL OTHER TRAITS AND CONSIDERATIONS! SHOW WINS ARE NICE BUT MUST ALWAYS BE VALUED BELOW SUPERIOR WORKING ABILITY IN ANATOLIAN BREEDING SELECTION! |
CABUK CHECKING THE GROUND TO SEE WHY THE GOATS WERE LOOKING THROUGH THE HAY
-1- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 17, 2022 After watching the goats eat their grain, CABUK decides to see if she can find what is causing the goats to look through the hay. As always, CABUK moves slowly and carefully, keeping her goats calm. |
-2- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 17, 2022 Not finding anything interesting, CABUK expands her search. CABUK is always curious, observant and calm! This is behavior I want to see in young Anatolians! It helps me identify my potential breeding Anatolians, who are always selected for PROVEN superior working ability! |
CABUK CALMLY WATCHING GOATS EAT LEAVES
-1- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 16, 2022 After I'd let the goats run in to eat their grain, they moved to some brush I'd given them. CABUK watched them as they ran past to the grain. Then CABUK trotted behind the group to watch them eat. As an excellent livestock guardian, CABUK is curious and observant, always wanting to learn what is happening without being intrusive. |
-2- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 16, 2022 CABUK decides to pick up a stray grapevine from the pile the goats were so eagerly eating. CABUK is pictured carrying the vine back to where I am sitting! She lays down beside me and begins chewing on the grapevine as she watches her goats eat! Look at CABUK'S perfect front! |
CABUK CALMLY WATCHES GOATS RUSH TO THE FEED TROUGH AND INSPECTS AFTERWARDS
-1- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 14, 2022 Lays down to watch as her young goats rush to the feeder. Look for calm and observant Anatolians when seeking superior livestock guardians! |
-2- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 14, 2022 CABUK continues to patiently watch her goats rush around, jockying for the best position. CABUK has removed herself from the running and high enery of her goats! |
-3- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 14, 2022 After the goats have eaten their food CABUK calmly gets up and inspects the feeders! CABUK seems curious to know what all the fuss was about! |
-4- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 14, 2022 CABUK puts her head inside a feeder and licks the leftovers. She doesn't seem very impressed and calmly moves to the goats' new location. |
-5- Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT on September 14, 2022 CABUK continues to be curious about what the goats are doing. CABUK slowly moved to the new location - the water tank - and calmly watches the goats drink! |
CABUK LEARNING COMMUNICATION BEHAVIORS WITH DIKKAT
-1- This picture above (September 3, 2022) is of CABUK learning how to communicate with other Anatolians. In this picture, Dikkat (who had been running and playing with CABUK moments before) decided she was through with play. CABUK realized that, shows compliant submission, but still wants to play even though she knows DIKKAT doesn't want to continue. |
-2- CABUK gets up and carefully walks around Dikkat. Coming from behind, CABUK hopes she can re-engage DIKKAT in play. DIKKAT gently says she's not interested. DIKKAT responds to CABUK in a way that makes it clear she wants CABUK to stop playing. (In her response to CABUK, DIKKAT gave a low growl, clearly telling CABUK to stop it!) |
-3- CABUK stops the play for a minute, thinking about her next move. |
-4- CABUK decides to make one more attempt to engage in play with DIKKAT. DIKKAT correctly escalates her response and growls and snaps at CABUK. Finally, after this clear-cut response, CABUK stops her attempts to play! |
CABUK WITH INDIAN RUNNER DUCKS
-1- This picture above (September 2, 2022) is of CABUK very respectfully walking around Indian Runner ducks. You may know how flighty Indian Runner ducks are. If CABUK moves too quickly or gets too close to the ducks, they flap their wings and run! CABUK already knows to move slowly and carefully to avoid agitating these sensitive and hyper-active ducks! |
-2- CABUK has been bred for many generations with working ability as the highest selection criteria. So far, I haven't needed to do anything to teach her how to behave around the Indian Runner ducks. The first time CABUK went into the Indian Runner Duck pen, she moved a bit too quickly and got too close to the ducks. They flapped their wings and ran! Rather than chase, CABUK immediately put her head down and slowly moved away to calm them down. Exactly the response I want! You can see in the above pictures that CABUK knows the speed and distance to keep these ducks calm! It is this type of genetic knowledge and reactions that I want a correctly bred Anatolian to have! However, even well-bred Anatolians frequently need much training time with poultry! |
CABUK, LIKE ALL LUCKY HIT ANATOLIANS, IS TESTED FOR WORKING ABILITY WITH GOATS AND OTHER ANIMALS
Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT The essence of the breed is working ability and it MUST be tested for before an Anatolian can be considered for breeding! CABUK is pictured here at three months on September 4, 2022 demonstrating her excellent working ability! As a bonus, CABUK has an Amazingly Correct Conformation! |
CABUK GROWING UP WITH GOATS on September 4, 2022 ALL POTENTIAL BREEDING ANATOLIANS MUST BE TESTED WITH SHEEP AND/OR GOATS 24/7 IN A PREDATOR RICH ENVIRONMENT! ALL OTHER TESTING, INCLUDING HEALTH TESTING, IS SECONDARY BECAUSE WORKING ABILITY IS THE ESSENCE OF THE BREED! |
CABUK, LIKE ALL LUCKY HIT ANATOLIANS, IS TAUGHT TO ACCEPT OTHER DOGS EATING CLOSE-BY
Elkhorn Ginger CABUK of LUCKY HIT (Pictured here with LUCKY HIT Sonra GENIS of CEDAR RISE [GENIS] eating together.) I teach my Anatolians to eat together amicably. Pictured here on September 2, 2022, CABUT, like all Anatolian Pups raised at Lucky Hit Ranch, is learning to eat beside other Anatolians without being food protective. Luckily, CABUT has no problem with this arrangement. In fact, she actually likes eating with her friends! |
